Mission/Philosophy
Mission Statement
St. Mel School, an educational ministry of St. Mel Parish,
promotes academic excellence within a Catholic, faith-filled environment. The school serves St. Mel Parish and the
surrounding communities by providing a standards-based curriculum for grades
Transitional Kindergarten (TK)-8. A St.
Mel education empowers students to become active, responsible Catholic adults
whose lives reflect the Gospel values.
Our mission statement is the central point of all we do
here at St. Mel Catholic School. Our
school was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1959 with an emphasis on “service
to others”. Our primary focus is to help
children build a strong relationship with God through Catholic education. We are committed to educating the whole child: mentally, physically, emotionally, socially
and most importantly, spiritually. We
are a welcoming community that provides an exceptional education in a
faith-filled environment through “Integrating
Faith with Academic Excellence”.
Philosophy
“THE FUTURE OF HUMANITY LIES IN THE HANDS OF THOSE WHO ARE
STRONG ENOUGH TO PROVIDE COMING GENERATIONS WITH REASONS FOR LIVING AND
HOPING”. (Church in Modern World, Vat.II) The task of educating the young
belongs primarily with parents. St. Mel School endeavors to assist the parents
in this role by creating a Catholic, faith-filled environment which will
promote the spiritual, intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth of
the child. Many opportunities are
provided for the development of right judgment, creative thinking, the
acceptance of leadership roles, and a sense of moral values. A sense of self-worth is developed in
students as they are empowered to contribute their share in the work of
building a Catholic community. Our
success as Catholic educators is enhanced by parental support; and conversely,
family life is strengthened by the active participation of its members in the
Catholic school.
Our philosophy is why St. Mel Catholic School is the
right place to nurture a child’s natural love of learning and spiritual growth
which will prepare them to be the very best they can be now and in the future
as adults. Our Student Learning
Expectations (SLEs), complete the foundation in the formation or our students
as disciples of Christ. A Catholic
education does and will continue to make a difference in your child’s
life. It is an investment in the future,
your child, the world, and our Catholic faith.
Thank you for making the sacrifices to provide your child with a
Catholic education.
